“Prison Chess” (Fængselsskak®) is a program currently operating in two open Danish prisons. The premise is straightforward but deeply impactful, offering weekly chess lessons of 1.5 hours to the incarcerated population. While 90 minutes of gameplay may appear to be a simple recreational activity, recent feedback from those inside the walls suggests it is achieving profound criminological and rehabilitative outcomes.
